Terms and Conditions - Employers

Career Gateway is an online database used by Monash University Employment and Career Development to advertise job vacancies to students, graduates and alumni of Monash University.

All employers and advertisers who wish to use Career Gateway must comply with all relevant legislation including, but not limited to, the Workplace Relations Act 1996 (Cth), Trade Practices Act 1974 (Cth), Fair Trading Act 1999 (Vic), Equal Opportunity Act 1995 (Vic), Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth), Sex Discrimination Act 1984 (Cth), Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Cth), Age Discrimination Act 2004 (Cth), Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission Act 1986 (Cth) and Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

The content of advertisements is the complete responsibility of the employer or advertiser.

Third party recruiters include recruitment agencies, tutoring agencies or any organisation that receives a fee to recruit on behalf of their client. Third party recruiters will be charged a fee of A$80.00 (GST inclusive) per advertisement, which runs for up to one month, and must also disclose their client to Monash University Employment and Career Development. Furthermore, actual/specific job vacancies must be advertised. We do not accept advertisements for students to "register for possible opportunities" through any type of agency or third party recruiter.

Salary: An hourly, weekly, monthly or annual figure must be supplied for each vacancy. A range or minimum is acceptable as is reference to a relevant Award. A separate training wage is not acceptable unless it complies with State or Federal Awards or Agreements. If listing an Award, the actual name of the Award must be provided (eg. Transport Workers Award 1998).

All submitted vacancies are subject to approval by Monash University Employment and Career Development staff before being advertised on the website. Only genuine job vacancies will be advertised. If insufficient or incorrect information is supplied, there will be delays in the advertising of vacancies. Advertisements are processed Monday to Friday between 8.30am and 4.30pm, except when the University is closed.

Monash University Employment and Career Development will not advertise the following:

  • commission only jobs;
  • work involving unpaid or reduced pay training / trial periods;
  • "business opportunities";
  • franchise ownership opportunities;
  • pyramid schemes;
  • positions where students must purchase a product or service;
  • participation in research, if the research project has not received the approval of University Standing Committee on Ethics in Research on Humans;
  • Voluntary positions associated with for-profit businesses. **

** Voluntary positions will only be accepted from non profit organisations, or where they are associated with non profit events, or where they constitute a component of a formal academic program.

Monash University Employment and Career Development reserves the right to refuse, or withdraw, any advertisement from our site for any reason without explanation including, but not limited to, the following:

  • where non-compliance with these terms and conditions has occurred;
  • misleading or incorrect information has been provided;
  • a complaint about the employer or advertiser have been received;
  • where non-compliance with the law is reasonably suspected;
  • the vacancy is considered to be inappropriate.

In the instance that a Monash University student or graduate makes a complaint about an employer or advertiser using this service, the following procedure will apply:

  1. The complaint will be documented.
  2. Any vacancies currently listed by the employer or advertiser may be suspended without notice, pending investigation of the complaint by the Team Leader of Industry and Community Relationships of Employment and Career Development.
  3. The employer or advertiser will be contacted for a "right of reply" about the issue in question.
  4. If the complaint is upheld, the employer or advertiser will be given a warning. If the complaint is of a very serious nature, the employer or advertiser may be informed that they are not able to use the service in future.
  5. Where a second complaint is received and is upheld, the employer or advertiser will no longer be able to use the service.
  6. In cases where the complaint reveals that information provided in the job advertisement was false or misleading or contravened the law, the advertisement will be withdrawn immediately.

It is a condition of advertisement that employers and advertisers agree to indemnify Monash University Employment and Career Development for any loss, costs or claims incurred by Monash University Employment and Career Development arising from a complaint made by a student, graduate, or third party where a breach of the law is alleged or occurs.

Although the Monash University Employment and Career Development jobs website is for Monash University students and graduates only, we cannot guarantee that others will not view and apply for advertised vacancies. Monash University Employment and Career Development accepts no responsibility for screening applicants and gives no assurance as to the suitability of any student, graduate or other person who applies for any advertised position.

All advertisements typed by our staff on behalf of businesses/organisations will incur an administrative fee of A$49.50 (GST inclusive). If you enter your own vacancy directly, no administrative fee will be incurred.
