Advertising for a Student Tutor
Individuals and householders can advertise tutoring
requirements FREE on Jobs
Online. If you have never used Jobs Online before, on
first use you will need to register
as an employer and
from then on, simply login.
Advertisements should specify:
- The contact person's name for applicants
- The contact person's phone number or mobile
- The suburb where the work is located
- The name of the subject(s) for which assistance is required (please
do not use subject codes)
- The year level for which assistance is required
- The anticipated regularity of the work (eg. once-only; for X number
of weeks until exams; ongoing)
- The anticipated number of hours required on each occasion, or the
number of hours per week if you anticipate regular tutoring sessions
- mention specific days and times if you require them
- Details of any special requirements, such as previous tutoring
experience, or knowledge of particular study techniques or subject
concepts
- The hourly pay rate you are offering (see recommended rates below)
An administrator will review your advertisement and once approved,
it will appear live on our website for interested Monash students and
graduates. Candidates will apply directly to you and then you select
the person you feel is most suitable for your job.
Recommended Rates of Pay
Undergraduate students should be paid the following
rates:
- Tutoring secondary levels up to/including Year 10: $22.00
per hour
- Tutoring VCE Year 11 and 12: $25.00 per hour
- Tutoring tertiary levels: from $30.00 per hour
Postgraduate students should be paid an additional $5.00 per hour on the undergraduate rates.
If a tutor travels more than 10km (one way) to your home, they are
entitled to be paid an additional $0.60 per kilometre for any excess kilometres
travelled both ways.
Sometimes tutors are willing to help two or three students together
in a single session. In these cases the tutor should be paid at the rate
of "time
and a half", or "double time" respectively.
Working with Children Check
From 30 June 2010 the Victorian Government will require any person
providing coaching or tuition services of any kind for children to
obtain a Working
with Children Check. This requirement will be phased in from 1
July 2009 and after 30 June 2010 will become mandatory.
It is the responsibility of employers and employees to
ensure they understand and adhere to their respective obligations in
regard to the Working
with Children Check.
